Scott Thon is the President and Chief Executive Officer of AltaLink, Canada’s first independent transmission company. With $2 billion in assets, including 11,800 km of transmission lines and approximately 270 substations, AltaLink is Alberta’s largest electric transmission owner and operator, providing transmission service to more than 85 per cent of Albertans. In 2008, Calgary Inc. magazine named AltaLink "The Best Place to Work" in the Energy/Oil and Gas Category.
Scott is a registered professional engineer who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan. He is also a graduate of the Executive Program from the University of Western Ontario’s Richard Ivey School of Business.
With over 20 years of power industry experience, Scott has held a variety of senior engineering, financial and market design leadership positions in the electricity industry including being a member of the inaugural Power Pool of Alberta executive team in 1996.
Scott is an active member in the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) serving on the Board of Directors, Management Board and as the past-Chair of both the Association’s Transmission Council and Environmental Commitment & Responsibility Program. He also serves as Chair of the Board of Governors for Bow Valley College and as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors for the United Way of Calgary and Area. Scott also participates on the Alberta Economic Development Authority’s Board of Management and their Energy Resource Committee and he is a member of the Canadian Athletic Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
Scott and his wife Deb have two children and enjoy being active in their community. In 2005, Scott received Alberta’s Centennial Medal.
