Don Wharton, Vice-President Sustainable Development, is responsible for leading TransAlta’s sustainability initiatives, including implementing TransAlta’s strategic approach to environmental policy, climate change, and managing its carbon offsets portfolio. He leads TransAlta’s CCS work on environmental issues and knowledge transfer.
Mr. Wharton is chairman of the Canadian Clean Power Coalition (CCPC). He also
chairs the Canadian Working Group of the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA).
Mr. Wharton joined TransAlta in 1994 and has worked in the energy and environment field for almost 30 years. Prior to this role, Mr. Wharton worked in both the Sustainable Development and Energy Marketing Departments at TransAlta, and previously in both the public sector and as an environmental consultant.
