Greg started his career with Shell Canada in 1977 after graduating from the University of Calgary. As a supervising engineer with Shell, he was responsible for the design and construction of oil and gas fields, pipelines and wellhead facilities. In 1989, he took on the role of business planning advisor responsible for preparing the company’s annual five-year plan in the resources business unit. Greg responsibilities expanded again at Shell when he took over the job of the manager of supply in the natural gas marketing group, coordinating the gas acquisition program and steering negotiations for long-term sales contracts with utility companies and supply contracts with producers.
In 1997, Greg transferred his skills to Coral Energy Canada, the global trading affiliate of the Shell Group. As the vice president of power at Coral, Greg negotiated long-term electricity purchase deals, marketed gas and electricity-structured products. Greg also developed and managed Coral’s government relations program that lead to significant agreements with the Ontario Power Authority. He was responsible for sealing a 20-year tolling agreement between Coral and Brighton Beach Power L.P. that supported the development of the 550 MW Brighton Beach Power Station in Windsor, Ontario.
Greg Baden graduated from the University of Calgary (B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering 1977).
